Universal Pre-K

Chickpeas is offering universal Pre-Kindergarten (UPK) to eligible children through a contract with the New York City Dept. of Education. Children are eligible for UPK if they turn four by the end of the calendar year in which the school year starts (e.g., 2004 births for the 2008-2009 school year, 2005 births for the 2009-2010 school year, etc.), and if they attend school five days per week. For each child enrolled in UPK, Chickpeas is reimbursed by the Dept. of Education for approximately forty percent of the cost of that child's participation in the normal Chickpeas program. This subsidy is passed along to the child's family as a discount off the regular tuition charge.
